When Curiosity Sparks Learning
Every now and then, homeschooling gives me these little moments that stop me in my tracks—reminders of why we chose this path in the first place.
The other day, my son had a question. He wanted to understand how turns actually work in skating and scooting. Not just doing it, but why it happens, how the body moves, and what makes it possible.
We were in the car at the time, chatting back and forth. I tossed out a few ideas, he thought it through, and we left it there for the moment. By the time we got home, though, his curiosity hadn’t faded—it had grown. He went straight for the magnetic blocks and started experimenting. First, he built a half circle. Then he expanded it into a full circle. He was testing angles, thinking about motion, and making sense of it all through play.
I stood there watching, and I thought: this is it. This is what happens when children have time, space, and freedom to follow their curiosity. When their days aren’t packed with worksheets or busy work, their minds open up. They chase their own questions. They connect ideas. They build their own understanding of the world in ways that are meaningful to them.
And it reminded me—this is learning. This is educating. Not because a curriculum told him to, not because there was a “lesson plan,” but because he was living, wondering, and exploring.
Moments like these are why I’m so passionate about creating spaces for families to experience homeschooling in this way. It’s not about ticking off boxes or keeping up with someone else’s standard. It’s about nurturing curiosity, encouraging creativity, and trusting that children are capable learners when we give them the right environment.
✨ That’s the heart behind the DIY Curriculum Homeschooling Summit. It’s a place where we dive deep into what it really means to create a flexible, personalised homeschooling journey. We’ll hear from veteran homeschoolers who’ve walked every stage of the path, as well as parents who are right in the middle of figuring it out—sharing the wins, the struggles, and everything in between.
If you’ve ever wondered how to make homeschooling feel lighter, more connected, and more aligned with your family’s life, this Summit is for you.
Because at the end of the day, homeschooling doesn’t have to be expensive, stressful, or one-size-fits-all. It can be joyful. It can be personal. And it can be exactly what your child needs.
A Note of Encouragement
If you’re reading this and feeling unsure—maybe you’re overwhelmed, second-guessing yourself, or wondering if you’re “doing enough”—please know this: you are not alone. Every homeschool parent wrestles with those doubts.
The beauty of homeschooling is that it doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. Your homeschool can be as unique as your child, your family, and your life. And that uniqueness is what makes it powerful.
So take a breath. Give yourself permission to let go of the busy work, to follow curiosity, and to trust that learning is happening—even in the smallest everyday moments.
You’ve got this. And we’re here to walk alongside you, every step of the way. 💖
